In what has been called a "serious and significant" development in the case, the Met Police released a statement late on 9 March, revealing that it has arrested a man from an address in Kent in connection with Ms Everard's disappearance.

The man (a serving Met Police officer) was off duty at the time of the disappearance. He has now been taken into custody. A woman suspected of assisting an offender was also arrested.

'Shocking and deeply disturbing'

Assistant Met Police Commissioner Nick Ephgrave said the fact the arrested man  is a serving officer is both "shocking and deeply disturbing".

Detective Chief Inspector Katherine Goodwin said: "This is a fast-moving investigation and we are doing everything we can to find Sarah.
