Berkhamsted sides make it four wins from four

All four Berkhamsted cricket sides were victorious at the weekend '“ and the first XI led the way by rolling over Met Police Bushey to win by 133 runs.

The visitors to Castle Hill inserted Berkhamsted on a firm, green wicket. The score of 218-6 hinged around two key partnerships with man of the match Foster (61) and Joyce (48) at the start, and Gofton (48) in the middle. With a solid foundation, Berkhamsted were able to apply a late press to post a respectable total following MPB’s effective use of spin in the middle overs.

Foster was involved again with the new ball (3-25). He and Greener (3-11) set the tone with a hostile opening tenovers. The opposition struggled to build any momentum following this. With the introduction of spinners Richards (1-9) and Kloisterman (3-12) MPB ended 85 allout.

Berkhamsted II made it two league wins from two at St Albans III.

Berkhamsted bowled first and managed to limit St Albans to 146all out. The opening pair of Roberts (4-28) and Prunty (2-33) went through the St Albans top order with pace and control. Captain Mason (3-33) then followed suit, restricting St Albans from gaining any real momentum.

Debonnaire (74) decided to make quick work of the run chase - 74 runs before his opening partner reached double figures. Further contributions from Smith (22no) and Lewarne (17) saw the team home.

There was a fine 116 run victory for Berkhamsted III at Frogmore II. Batting first, Berkhamsted posted 211-4 in their 40 overs with Kennedy (82ret) and Keogh (56) starring in the middle. Hunter (3-12) doing the necessary work with the new ball to prevent Frogmore building early partnerships. Naik (4/15) later removed the tail. The final wicket fell with Frogmore on 95.

Berkhamsted IV made it a good day for the club by completing a convincing seven wicket victory over Leverstock Green IV. Notable performances with the ball included Vaughan (3-44), Potts (2-33) and living legend Pratt (2-37). The economical spell from Potts in the middle overs proved crucial, preventing two partnerships with the opposition’s Welsh (55no) from developing.

With the bat, Chambers (76) and Putman (64) played brilliantly to ensure Berkhamsted chased the total down with 1.2 overs spare.
