Nailing It has at least one thing in common with The Great British Bake Off: budding bakers battling it out to create the most mouth-watering creations imaginable.

But there are a couple of differences in Netflix's new cookery contest.

For a start, all of the contestants involved have a "terrible track record" when it comes to baking; a past of monstrous creations in the kitchen.

And every week is 'showstopper' week.

If you've ever seen a spectacular looking cake on Instagram or Pinterest and had a go a making it yourself, only for the results to turn out horrifically, you'll share the amateur bakers of Nailed It's pain.

Taking its inspiration from the meme of the same name - in which a picture of an elaborate creation is posted, followed by a failed home attempt to recreate the masterpiece - Nailed It describes itself as "part reality show, part hot mess".

Each episode, the contestants will be tasked with recreating an especially complex treat from the internet; treats that they are totally under-qualified to produce themselves.

With the added stress of a time limit, the rookie cooks spend each episode royally messing things up.

The results are judged by chocolatier Jacques Torres and comedian host Nicole Byer, with a guest judge helping out on each round.

The baker who's furthest from 'nailing it' will leave the show, and the grand prize at the end is $10,000 to the contestant who nails it on a consistent basis.

The extreme cake failures are part of the fun, and the contestants seem to be in on the joke and have as much fun as the judges.

"Can't forget the vodka," one quips as she sets up her cake area in the trailer.

Mixing comedy with sub-par culinary skills seems like a recipe for success, and for anyone who enjoys the tension of Bake Off's showstopper week, this is a must watch.

Just don't expect quite the same spectacular results; it's likely to be soggy bottoms all round.

The first season of Nailed It debuts on Netflix on 9 March
