Dacorum Borough Council is organising activities in honour of Armed Forces Day on Saturday, June 27.

Armed Forces Day is an opportunity for the council and residents to show gratitude and appreciation for the men and women who make up the armed forces community, from current serving troops to service families, veterans, cadets and their families and friends.

Due to the coronavirus outbreak in the UK the council is unable to hold the event in the park this year.

However, they will be marking Armed Forces Day by sharing stories and photographs on www.dacorum.gov.uk/armedforcesday and their social media channels, including veteran plane crash survivor, Jamie Hull, who has an amazing story to tell.

The celebrations will begin today (Monday) when flags are raised on buildings and landmarks throughout the county, including The Forum in Hemel Hempstead.

The flag will continue to fly for Reserves Day on June 24, and Armed Forces Day on June 27.

Julie Banks, Portfolio Holder for Communities and Regulatory Services, said: “I hope that members of our local community will enjoy the photographs and stories from local people supporting Armed Forces Day.”

Armed Forces Day is an annual, national campaign which usually has events throughout the UK to celebrate the work of members of the armed forces – the Army, Royal Air Force and Royal Navy.
