“HACRO supports people at a critical turning point in their lives, helping to build the confidence, skills and stability they need to move forward"

Local housebuilders Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes have donated £1,500 to the Hertfordshire Association for the Care and Rehabilitation of Offenders (HACRO), a Hertfordshire-based charity that supports people in rebuilding their lives after involvement with the criminal justice system.

The donation was made through Barratt Redrow’s Community Fund, which supports local charities nominated by employees and working in the communities where the housebuilder operates.

For more than 50 years, HACRO has worked across Hertfordshire to support ex-offenders, those at risk of offending and their families, helping them make positive changes and move forward with their lives.

National data indicates that the proven reoffending rate remains close to 29 per cent, underlining the importance of effective rehabilitation and community-based support. Through mentoring, training and wellbeing programmes, including its flagship TurnAround initiative, HACRO provides structured one-to-one support, skills development and work-readiness opportunities. The charity works closely with Probation, the police and other local partners to help reduce reoffending and support successful reintegration into the community.

Marc Woolfe, Sales and Marketing Director at Barratt David Wilson North Thames, said: “HACRO supports people at a critical turning point in their lives, helping to build the confidence, skills and stability they need to move forward. As a Hertfordshire-based business, it is important to us at Barratt David Wilson North Thames to support organisations that make a meaningful difference locally. We were pleased to make this donation, which reflects our commitment to backing initiatives that strengthen communities and support long-term positive outcomes.”

A spokesperson for HACRO added: “Support like this enables us to continue delivering our rehabilitation and mentoring programmes across Hertfordshire, including our flagship TurnAround programme. This allows us to provide tailored, needs-based support to individuals who are often hard to reach, giving them the structure, guidance and opportunity needed to rebuild their lives and reintegrate into the community.”
