Hidden treasures uncovered at Bushey House Beaumont

Residents at Bushey House Beaumont Care Home enjoyed a fascinating journey into history when local auctioneer Richard Kluk from Bushey Auctions visited for a special antiques and valuation afternoon.

The event gave residents and visitors the opportunity to learn about historical artefacts and discover more about some of their own treasured possessions, resulting in a number of surprises and an extraordinary story hidden within a seemingly ordinary pocket watch.

Among the items Richard shared was a stunning Louis XV snuff box crafted from 15-carat gold and decorated with intricate filigree work. Residents were captivated by the craftsmanship and the history behind the piece, while discussions about antiques and family heirlooms sparked memories and conversations throughout the afternoon. 

Several residents also brought along personal items for valuation, including a beautiful cameo brooch and an elegant amethyst brooch that received an unexpectedly high valuation.

However, the highlight of the afternoon was a gold pocket watch that initially appeared to be a simple timepiece. Upon closer examination, Richard discovered an engraving revealing that the watch had been presented by the President of the United States in recognition of the owner's role in helping rescue passengers from a ship on the Hudson.

The discovery fascinated residents and visitors alike, transforming what first seemed an unassuming object into a remarkable piece of living history.
