Now in its fifth year, the golf day raises funds in memory of Frankie's brother, Alfie, who died in 2021, aged just 28.

The pair also wanted to thank the centre for the care Peter’s mum, Sue, received at the centre. Sue sadly passed away just after this year’s golf day.

More than 100 golfers joined the event at The Grove Hotel in Watford with many wanting to take part to thank the cancer centre for the care their own family and friends had received there.

Donations, entry fees, auctions, raffles and sponsorships all helped with the fundraising as well as a sponsored head shave by Jacob, barman at The Three Horseshoes pub in Seer Green which raised £2,355.

Beth McNeil, head of fundraising for East and North Hertfordshire Hospitals’ Charity which supports the centre, said: “We are blown away by the kindness shown by Peter, Frankie and the team. They have put so much hard work and effort into organising this tournament to raise funds to support patients at Mount Vernon Cancer Centre.

“It was a pleasure to introduce them to the staff at the Lynda Jackson Centre and the chemotherapy unit, and to show them some of the equipment, services and enhanced outdoor spaces made possible through generous donations like theirs.

“These projects make such a difference to patients going through the physical and emotional upset of cancer treatment and we simply couldn’t do them without kind support like this."

East and North Herts Hospitals’ Charity would like to than the team, Alfie’s family, all the golfers who gave so generously, Jacob and The Three Horseshoes team, The Grove and sponsors, Complete Golfer and Merch.

Also, a very special thank you to Peter’s mum and Gary Sparrowhawk for nominating the centre as the tournament’s chosen charity.
