Hot streak is over as Tring slump to loss

Tring have been fortunate when under-performing in recent matches, so maybe this was the week where the fickle gods of football came to give Corries their comeuppance.

Tring started slowly, while Grendon were combative and physical but not really creating anything.

However, on 15 minutes a Grendon corner ended up directly in the Tring net as the low level sun blinded stand-in keeper Paul Jeffs.

Corries then decided to start playing and began to dominate. Gibbs and Byrne both went close and several balls were pumped into the box, but Tring were lacklustre in getting on to the end of them.

Corries needed a strong start to the second half, but they fell further behind when Grendon’s only shot of the game evaded Jeffs to make it 2-0.

Now Corries tore at their opponents. Gibbs found Andy Wheeler-King on the left and the latter stormed down the flank before finishing with aplomb.

The final 30 minutes were all Tring, but they could not get the equaliser. Luke Byrne went close, as did substitute Kerry Gordon, but Grendon held firm.

Tring’s day was summed up in the 93rd minute. They were throwing everyone into attack and Rob Lear geared up for a long throw to add more pressure – but this ended up being a foul throw and momentum was lost.
