Hemel Hempstead Town have completed the signing of midfielder Matt Saunders from Conference side Dover Athletic.

Saunders joined Dover in September 2014 from Whitehawk, having graduated from Fulham’s academy.

In January 2010 he joined then League Two club Lincoln City on a one-month loan deal, later re-joining them for another loan and made a total of 18 appearances for the Imps, scoring three goals.

In February 2012, he joined League Two side Dagenham & Redbridge on an 18-month contract and went on to make 41 appearances for the Daggers – netting four times.

After leaving Dagenham in the summer of 2014, he signed for Whitehawk, having also played for Luton Town in development games against Barnet and Bournemouth.

Speaking about Saunders earlier this year, Luton boss John Still said: “He’s a very, very, very good player; he was at Fulham, but he had nothing but injury problems at Dagenham.

“So because of that situation I said, you can come in and train, but I’m not making any promises.

“He’s played a couple of development games, but if he’s fit he’s a very, very good player.”
