A bronze medal treble for Rush Judo youngsters

The five judoka from the Competition Squad had all previously qualified for the event by achieving gold medals at the Northern Home Counties Regional Qualifiers in January.
Lewis Fryer (U34kg) and Evie Halvey-Jacobs (U40kg) were competing in Years 6/7. Despite a loss in an early round, both showed tremendous spirit to win their next three fights with some stunning judo to take well deserved bronze medals.

Also competing in Year 8/9, Haydn Williams (U42kg) and Charlie Bennett (U50kg) achieved seventh placed finishes; particularly good results considering they were in groups of over 20 and up against England squad members.
Coach Laurie Rush was pleased with the weekend’s results, saying: “More progress made but still more to go!”
