Swan dies five days after attack

A swan has died after it was attacked by a dog along the Grand Union Canal last week.

Swan Rescue Hertfordshire say that the attack took place at around 5pm on Thursday (August 20), leaving the 
bird with seven puncture wounds.

Although the animal was taken to The Swan Sanctuary at Shepperton for emergency treatment it died five days later.

The attack is believed to have taken place on the green area behind Lawn Lane and alongside Durrants Hill Road.

At the time of the incident she was with the male swan and two cygnets.

Unfortunately the male and one cygnet have now 
gone, leaving a lone cygnet which is still on the canal 
between the two locks at the cricket and just before 
Sainsbury’s

Anyone who has any information or who witnessed the attack is asked to contact 
Hertfordshire Police on 101.
