Scouting for fun in Japan

Seven explorer scouts from Hemel headed to the 23rd World Scout Jamboree in Japan, joined by ten leaders and 30,000 fellow scouts from across the globe.

The leaders took on a variety of roles, ranging from central management to hospitality and running units of young people. And while the teenagers experienced a wide range of life-changing experiences, with several of them extending their stays to explore Japan with activities such as climbing Mount Fuji and seeing the sun rise.

Meanwhile another 94 members of the scouting team headed to Holland to join the Haarlem Jamborette, a large international camp that is also held every four years.

The 50 scouts, 28 explorer scouts and 14 leaders took on activities including hiking, pioneering and games.

Troops from the county have also been on summer trips to the Isle of Wight, Thriftwood campsite in Essex, Chamonix in France, and the birthplace of Scouting on Brownsea Island, Poole Harbour.
