The group were outside Marie Stopes, which is based within the Speedwell Pharmacy in London Road. The clinic offers both NHS and private abortion treatment.

Genevieve Edwards, director of policy at Marie Stopes UK, said: “There are no other healthcare services where you’d be forced to walk through protests like this and it’s unacceptable.

“Their activities don’t stop women having abortions, but they do upset and intimidate many women.”

Marie Stopes UK has been providing termination of pregnancy services in Hemel Hempstead since 2012. The service in Hemel Hempstead provides medical abortions (where pills are taken to end a pregnancy) up to nine weeks. Its abortion care service also includes contraception and testing for sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

Women who use Marie Stopes UK’s services are also entitled to free, confidential counselling., including a 24/7 telephone helpline, staffed by nurses who can offer advice and support both before and after the procedure.
