Serious collision closes A414 near Hemel Hempstead

Police were called to reports of a collision on the A414 North Orbital Road, near St Albans at around 12.30pm today (Thursday).

Two lorries and a Vauxhall Corsa were involved in the collision.

One woman was transported to St Mary's Hospital for further assessment and care.

A spokesperson for Hertfordshire Police said: "The road has been closed to allow emergency services access. It’s currently closed eastbound from M1 Junction 8 (Hemel Hempstead) to A5183 Watling Street (Park Street Roundabout, St Albans).

"People are asked to avoid the area where possible."

Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue, air ambulance and ambulance crews assisted the police force at the scene.

A spokesperson for Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: “We were called at 12.31 on 20 February 2020 to a vehicle fire on the A414, Hemel Hempstead, near the Park Street roundabout.

"Four fire engines from St Albans, Garston and Hemel Hempstead fire stations attended and crews used hose reels to tackle the fire."

Highways England is urging drivers to plan ahead and consider alternative routes and allow additional time for their journeys.
