On Friday, May 8, the nation celebrated VE Day and due to coronavirus lockdown restrictions the street parties originally planned to VE Day 75 had to be cancelled.

But that did not stop residents of Ashlyns residential home in Berkhamsted marking the occasion.

They had a street party to celebrate, they sang wartime songs, played games, drank Pimms and ate lots of cake. The staff at the residential home joined in the celebrations.

Jackie Milne, from Ashlyns residential home, said: "It was just a lovely day in these strange times as like all of us they are missing family visits."

Ria Hosier and her mum, of Bennetts End, had a tea party at home to celebrate VE Day, they watched the fly over in the afternoon.

Ria made a wreath for the front door one side red white and blue for the Union Jack, and the other side the army fields with soldiers in.
