Acts of community kindness campaign recognises those who make a difference in Hemel Hempstead

A woman from Hemel Hempstead started an acts of community kindness campaign in December to recognise those who had made a difference during the pandemic.

Roisin Gregory (Roz), who owns In The Frame Photography, decided she wanted to give something back to the community - to those who had helped and supported others during a challenging year.

She wanted to highlight some of the wonderful things people in the community had been doing, and she collected a range of gifts to give out as well.

Roz said: "I wanted to give something back to the community and create some community spirit, so I started community acts of kindness, I bought prizes from local businesses to support them during the pandemic.

"We wanted to give back to the community and recognise those who had done something special or made a difference.

"It was a chance to spread some positivity, I thought it would be something nice to do, especially after the year we have had.

"I put the prize on my business page and people could go through that to my blog and nominate someone, I then chose someone to win that prize.

"Local businesses wanted to support the campaign, but I also wanted to help them, so some businesses would give an extra something as a prize, after I bought from them.

"The acts of kindness could be anything, we had a little girl who did something for her school, Gemma, who was mentioned in the Covid Heroes story, also won a prize.

"There was lots of lovely stories, it was good to share the stories, I think it also helped create a good community spirit as people wanted to get involved."
