Hertfordshire Police are appealing for information and witnesses following a road traffic collision that saw an 11-year-old sustain life-threatening injuries and a 66-year-old woman suffer serious injuries.

A grey Hyundai i30 collided with a barrier on the M1 northbound junction 8 slip road to the A414 to Hemel Hempstead at around 6.20pm today (May 1).

The road was closed to allow investigations at the scene and for the air ambulance to land.

The 11-year-old and 66-year-old woman, who was a passenger, were taken to hospital. Two others in the car sustained minor injuries.

Officers are appealing to anyone who may have been in the area and saw the incident or has dashcam footage of what happened to contact police.
