MP joins fight against bone cancer

Hemel Hempstead MP Mike Penning has voiced his support for The Biggest Fight Against Bone Cancer, a new campaign to raise awareness of and funds for primary bone cancer.

At a parliamentary reception hosted by the Bone Cancer Research Trust, the MP heard that Hemel is a hotspot for the disease.

Local boy Adam Dealey passed away from Ewing’s sarcoma in 1995, at the age of 10.

Every year in the UK and Ireland around 600 new cases of primary bone cancer are diagnosed and around 300 people die from these cancers.

Most Popular

Young people are most likely to be affected as the disease has a peak incidence between the ages of 10 to 24.

Mr Penning also met Jamie Wood, a former amateur boxer who was diagnosed with Ewing’s sarcoma in 2010.

Following 16 courses of chemotherapy and major surgery, Jamie has now beaten bone cancer and returned to the boxing ring.
