David Taylor MP holds meeting with Home Secretary about crime in Hemel

Hemel Hempstead MP David Taylor has met with Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood to discuss tackling crime and antisocial behaviour in the town, following a series of major police operations across Hertfordshire.
During the meeting, Mr Taylor called for Hemel Hempstead to be included as a pilot area for the Government’s new Respect Orders, which aim to give police stronger powers to deal with persistent offenders and nuisance behaviour.
Mr Taylor said: “Our community is a place to be proud of, but residents tell me antisocial behaviour continues to blight parts of Hemel Hempstead, and residents have had enough. I made it clear to the Home Secretary that Hemel should be at the front of the queue for the Respect Order pilot so we can take tougher action against those who make life miserable for others.”
The MP also emphasised the need for stronger partnership working between local authorities, housing associations and police forces, particularly in the wake of recent enforcement activity in Hemel Hempstead.
"Recent major operations by Hertfordshire Police have shown what can be achieved when agencies work together,” Mr Taylor added. “That joined-up approach is essential if we’re to make lasting progress in tackling crime and restoring confidence in our community.”
Mr Taylor also took the opportunity to pay tribute to Hertfordshire Police for their professionalism and dedication in protecting local residents.
“Our officers do an outstanding job under immense pressure. They deserve our full support as they keep our streets safe,” he said
