Victoria Collins MP: Deadline looming for Government’s social media consultation
Victoria Collins, MP for Harpenden and Berkhamsted, is urging parents, young people and organisations to share their views as the Government’s consultation on social media use and a potential ban for under-16s closes at midnight tonight.
The Government’s consultation on social media use for under-16s will inform Ministers considering a range of measures to protect children online, including tighter restrictions and age limits. Individuals, parents, schools and organisations are being encouraged to submit their views before the deadline.

Victoria Collins MP said:
“You only have until midnight tonight (26 May) to make your views heard on how we better protect young people online. With the UK’s most senior doctors warning that excessive social media use poses a serious threat to young people’s health, I’m urging families, schools and young people to share their experiences and potential dangers they have faced.”
“The evidence of harm, from mental health impacts to addictive algorithms and harmful content, is too serious to ignore. We need stronger protections that put children first.”
“If you have strong views on social media and under-16s, now is the time to speak up before the consultation closes.”
