Tea-rific new way to support hospice care
Something has been ‘brewing’ at Rennie Grove Peace Hospice Care, with the charity today announcing the launch of a new fundraising initiative: Time for Tea.

The idea is simple: local people are being encouraged to get together with friends, family, neighbours or colleagues for a tea party to raise money for the hospice care charity.
Launched to coincide with Hospice Care Week (5 – 11 October 2026), the charity is encouraging local people to choose a date during October to get together and support hospice care.

Rennie Grove Peace Hospice Care has also created a fundraising pack to give hosts inspiration to make their event ‘tea-rific’ in their own way – whether that’s an indoor teddy bears picnic or a game-filled get together.
Gemma Norris, Senior Community Fundraiser at Rennie Grove Peace Hospice Care, says: “We’re delighted to be launching this new fundraising event as it really does offer something for everybody. Whether you can spare 10 minutes during your break at work or have a whole afternoon with your nearest and dearest, this is the perfect opportunity to support hospice care by enjoying time together over a cuppa and a slice of cake.
“We’re challenging people to raise £200 at their event as this would be enough to fund a day of support from one of our healthcare assistants, but the more you raise, the bigger the difference you can help us make. Whether you’re getting together at home, in the community, at your workplace or in a school, it’s always the right time for tea!”
Funds raised by the event will be used by Rennie Grove Peace Hospice Care to fund its services which are available to local people who are living with a progressive life-limiting illness. The charity offers support right from the point of diagnosis with an illness, through to bereavement.
This is delivered in a number of ways including the charity’s Compassionate Cafés which provide a safe space for people who have been bereaved to come together for a cuppa and a chat with people who understand.
Chris Puckey regularly attends the charity’s Compassionate Café in Harpenden and has found it to be a very positive experience. She says: “It’s been a big source of comfort, and I meet a lot of interesting people.”
Rennie Grove Peace is relaunching its Harpenden Compassionate Café this September with a new location and time for the sessions. The first session, in partnership with The Harpenden Trust, will take place at Charles Hill Lounge at the Harpenden Trust Halls in Southdown on 8th September. Sessions will then take place on the second Tuesday of each month in the same location from 10.30am-12.00pm.
