Visitors were treated to a full programme of activities including fire engine tours, a simulated traffic collision and hot oil fire demonstrations, confined space search and rescue displays, fire safety advice and the chance to meet the crew. The event also featured fairground rides for younger visitors, making it a community occasion that has grown in popularity year on year.

To cater for the day's visitors, RRT Thaxted deployed 16 volunteers to provide catering at the station, serving 650 hot burger meals throughout the event.

RRT has supported the Bishop's Stortford open day for 2 consecutive years, providing a welcoming and well-fed atmosphere for a community event that plays an important role in connecting residents with their local fire station.

Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service runs a programme of open days at stations across the county each year, giving the public the chance to engage with their local firefighters, learn about fire safety and access the service in a relaxed, community setting.

Nathan Smith, RRT Local Team Leader, said: "The open day is one of those events that genuinely brings the community together - people get to meet the crew, see what they do, and understand the station that serves their town. It's a great occasion and we're glad to play a part in it. Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service do vital work, and days like this help build the kind of connection between firefighters and the public that matters long after the event is over."

The RRT, which is made up of volunteers from the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church, has over a decade of experience working alongside the UK's fire and rescue services and supporting community engagement events. The charity puts compassion into action by providing practical welfare support to emergency services and the communities they serve.
