Political Opinion: Hemel mum backs social media ban for under-16s as “a weight lifted”
One of many parents in Hemel Hempstead looking forward to a social media ban for under-16s is mum of three Jodie Baudains.

Two of Jodie’s children are in their early teens. She said: “Being a teenager today is unbelievably hard. So we need to protect their wellbeing, mental health, confidence and happiness.
“The benefits of shielding children from social media harms far outweigh the drawbacks.”
Jodie, from Gadebridge, added: “The new law is a relief for me as I have often felt caught between making sure my children stay safe and fearing they will miss out or feel different to their friends.
“The move will be a significant step in the right direction. I’m absolutely delighted the Labour Government is introducing this.”
Hemel MP David Taylor said: “The new protections will help stop children being exposed to harmful content online. Parents across Hemel and the Villages have been clear the current situation is not working.”
The ban is expected to come into force next year. It will include platforms such as Snapchat, TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, Facebook and X. Messaging services like WhatsApp and Signal are likely to be unaffected.
