Markyate duo take on 100 miles in 5 days walking challenge to raise money for Cancer Research UK
Two determined residents from Markyate, Hertfordshire, are set to embark on an inspiring 100-mile walking challenge this June, raising vital funds for Cancer Research UK - a cause that holds deep personal significance for them both.

Tim Goodman (67) and Sara Chegwidden (50) will begin their journey at 9:00am on Tuesday 2nd June 2026, setting off from the iconic Avebury Stones in Wiltshire. Over five consecutive days, they will tackle the full length of The Ridgeway, reaching Ivinghoe Beacon, before continuing on to Markyate. They are aiming to complete the challenge on Saturday 6th June at approximately 6:00pm, finishing at The Plume of Feathers, Markyate.
This extraordinary effort is driven by personal experience. Tim is currently living with prostate cancer, and both he and Sara have lost close family members and friends to the disease. Their journey is not only a physical test of endurance but a powerful tribute to those affected by cancer.

Their route over the 5 days is shown on the map in the photo - we’d love locals and visitors to show us support - every bit of encouragement - whether it’s a cheer, wave, or people lining parts of the route, will make a huge difference as we take on this challenge for everyone affected by cancer.
