Calling all writers! Local radio station Radio Dacorum is looking for talented writers to star in their new spoken word show Your Words.

The station’s new spoken word show makes its debut on Wednesday 8th July 2026 and it will feature an eclectic mix of talented local writers. Appearing in the first four episodes will be local poet Joe Tyler Mann, short story writer and spiritual medium Clive Ryan, Derek Marshall, who’s seeking to get his plays on the stage, and Lynda McCarthy who turned down a publisher and has chosen to instead self publish her first novel Twin Helix.
Speaking about the new show, Your Words Producer Monica Callan said "Your Words is another Radio Dacorum show that continues to showcase the diverse talent we have here in Dacorum. We wanted to capture the feel of an audiobook while giving a platform to fresh, and emerging voices in our community. It's just one of the many jewels in Radio Dacorum's growing portfolio of original programming, and we're incredibly proud to be bringing these stories to our listeners."
Your Words is presented by Louisa Guise, herself a published author and poet. Louisa’s first book How to Leave a Group Chat, about communications and smartphone addiction, was published by The Book Guild in 2024, and she’s recently released a collection of poetry zines. Her laid-back style and background as a writer allow her to relate to her guests and conduct each interview with a shared literary insight and genuine curiosity.
Louisa told us, “I pitched an arts show to Radio Dacorum and was delighted to find out that Monica had had a similar idea. She was in the early stages of talking to local writing groups so I came on board at the right time. As an author and poet myself, I know how difficult it can be to find opportunities to publicise and promote your written work, so I am delighted to offer Dacorum’s local writers a platform just for them. We’ve had some fantastic submissions so far, and I can’t wait to see what else will be in store.”
You don’t have to be a published author to feature on Your Words, or even aspire to be one. The Radio Dacorum team are hoping to feature many different writers and types of writing on the show including novel extracts, non-fiction, plays, poems, Children’s books, short stories and more. The show is as much about getting to know the wordsmith as the work, and to showcase the people who enrich the local community with their words.
If you would like to apply to take part on the show, you can fill in the application form on radiodacorum.org.uk and upload a short recording, and Word file, of your writing. A direct link to the form can be found at: https://forms.cloud.microsoft/e/K2n1Q4zUvL.
