Impressive show despite the heatwave

Despite what has been a very challenging growing season, with prolonged periods of high temperatures and very little rainfall, this year's summer show was still a great success. The difficult conditions tested even the most experienced gardeners, making the quality of the exhibits all the more impressive.

In spite of the heat, exhibitors produced a superb display of vegetables, soft fruits and flowers. The fantastic standard of entries was a testament to the dedication, skill and perseverance of our growers, who worked tirelessly throughout the season to achieve such excellent results.

As always, the preserves and cooking classes attracted a wonderful selection of entries, while the floral art and photography sections once again showcased the creativity and talent of our members. Visitors thoroughly enjoyed browsing the displays, which reflected the wide range of interests and skills within our society.

The children's section was particularly popular and brought plenty of smiles to everyone attending. It was wonderful to see so many young people taking part, and we hope this enthusiasm for gardening and creativity continues to grow. Congratulations to Bernice Leon, who was awarded the Small Challenge Cup Certificate, and a sincere thank you to all the children who entered the show. Every entry contributed to making the event such an enjoyable occasion.

Congratulations also go to all of this year's prize winners, whose achievements deserve to be celebrated. Awards presented included:

  • The Banksian Medal - Mike Leon

  • The Bovingdon Horticultural Society Cup - Mike Leon

  • The National Vegetable Society Medal - Valter Johansson
