Dr Nori Graham visited Eggleton House on Miswell Lane to host an ‘Understanding Dementia’ session for over 30 attendees.

A fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists and former chairman of Alzheimer's Society, she provided expert advice to visitors, covering topics such as the warning signs of the disease and the lifestyle changes which can help to delay its start.

It was also an opportunity for those attending to meet with other individuals and families and share their lived experiences while tucking into sandwiches and tasty treats from PAMS.

Dr Graham said: “During the session at Eggleton House, we had an amazing interactive discussion about dementia, its symptoms, treatments and support services. I particularly focused on the lifestyle factors which can help to reduce the risk of developing dementia or delay the start.

“We had a lively group join us on the day including the mayoress of Tring, who is hoping to make the area a dementia friendly town. I felt everyone went away feeling better informed and in the knowledge that there is great support available.”

Another VIP, the mayor of Tring Carol Nutkins, was also in attendance. She is partnering with Eggleton House and local dementia groups with the goal of turning Tring into a more dementia-friendly town.

Clare Hedge, Home Manager at Eggleton House, said: “We were delighted to welcome Dr Graham and the community for an eye-opening talk on understanding dementia.

“We are constantly striving to achieve the best possible standard of care for residents of Eggleton House. Talks like these from the foremost experts in the field are invaluable in this goal and in educating the wider community.

“We can’t wait to work with Cllr Carol Nutkins this year to ensure people living with dementia can retain their independence and remain valued members of the community.”

Designed to enable residents to lead active and fulfilling lives, while also promoting independence, Eggleton House will incorporate plenty of space for leisure activities and hobbies. The layout of the building will be configured into a series of individual suites, each having a dedicated lounge/dining room to facilitate the creation of close-knit communities.
