Community Comes Together to Host Festive Meal for Elderly Residents

Residents from across the community came together on Monday 22 December 2025 to host a special festive meal for elderly residents who might otherwise have spent the holiday period alone.

The event, which took place at Martins Pond in Potten End, provided guests with a warm meal alongside a programme of entertainment, including a quiz, bingo, and festive activities, creating a joyful and welcoming atmosphere throughout the day.

The celebration was made possible thanks to the generous support of local sponsors Dan Cooper Skips, Herts Flooring and Interiors Limited, Certia Service, and TJ’s Late Shop, whose contributions helped ensure the success of the event.

Special recognition was given to Gary, Karen, Misty, Kerry, Ellie, and Jamie of Martins Pond, Potten End, who generously hosted the entire day and played a key role in bringing the event together.

The organisers were also pleased to welcome Mayoress Councillor Catherine McArevey, who attended the event and showed her support for the initiative.

Transportation for guests was arranged by Misty Fletcher from Community Action Dacorum, ensuring that elderly residents were able to attend safely and comfortably.

In addition, Small Acts of Kindness provided gifts for attendees, adding a further touch of generosity and festive spirit to the day.

Organisers said the event was a reminder of the strength of community spirit and the importance of supporting those who may feel isolated during the festive season.

Residents came from all around Dacorum, made new friends, shared laughter, and enjoyed a delicious, jolly meal together. The celebrations didn’t stop there — they played Bingo, took part in a quiz, and many residents went home with prizes and smiles on their faces.

Loneliness can have a real impact on both mental and physical health, and events like this show how bringing people together can make a meaningful difference to wellbeing

This is what community is all about: kindness, connection, and looking out for one another.
