Hannah Say was awarded the top prize of £300 by the team at Care UK’s Eggleton House, which is set to open its Miswell Lane doors this month.

The contest was launched to find an individual, charity, group or club that makes a positive difference within the Tring community and reward them for their commitment to the local area.

Hannah founded charity Say it with a Smile in 2022 after 20 years of working to support people living with dementia and the families who care for them.

Having begun working in the dementia field while studying at Southampton University, Hannah’s work over the years with the charity has created innovative dementia support programmes for care homes, local councils, the NHS and community organisations, including the award-nominated Dementia Friendly Watford initiative and the widely recognised Golden Memories reminiscence programme at Watford Football Club.

Hannah said: “I am truly honoured to be given this award on behalf of Say it with a Smile. My team and I look forward to working with Clare, Gemma and the Eggleton House staff in delivering our Memory Steps Course designed to help people living with dementia and those caring for them in the Tring area and surrounding villages.

“We are also looking forward to the launch of our joint venture the Smile Cafe in September. Thank you on behalf of Say it with a Smile.”

Clare Hedge, Home Manager at Eggleton House, said: “We all know someone who goes above and beyond for others – here in Tring, it’s Hannah.

“The nomination we received on her behalf was so heartwarming that there was no doubt in our mind she embodies what it means to be a local hero. Hannah has worked tirelessly to improve the lives of the many residents in Tring and the surrounding areas with connections to dementia.

“Supporting the community and vulnerable people is a cause close to our hearts here. We are delighted to be able to reward a local hero who positively impacts on the area. We want to extend our congratulations and a big thank you to Hannah for everything she does.”

Designed to enable residents to lead active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence, Eggleton House incorporates plenty of space for leisure activities and hobbies. The layout of the building is configured into a series of individual suites, each having a dedicated lounge/dining room to facilitate the creation of close-knit communities.
