7.5 years to be heard: Why I’m running the London 10K for Endometriosis Awareness

I was dismissed. I was told it was “just a phase.”
I was prescribed strong painkillers like tramadol and even morphine, instead of being given answers.

Deep down, I knew something more was going on. So I kept pushing. I kept asking questions. And eventually, after fighting to be heard, I was granted a laparoscopy.

That’s when I finally got my diagnosis: endometriosis.

Relief and frustration came hand in hand. Relief that I finally had answers—but frustration that it took so long to get there. And even now, the struggle hasn’t disappeared. Endometriosis is a chronic illness. It doesn’t just go away. It still affects my daily life in ways that people often don’t see.

That’s why this July, I’m doing something that feels both personal and defiant.

I’m running the Saucony London 10K.

This run is more than just a challenge—it’s my way of taking back some control. It’s a statement. A refusal to stay quiet about something that affects so many people but is still so misunderstood.

Endometriosis affects 1 in 10 people assigned female at birth, yet the average diagnosis time in the UK is still years too long. No one should have to fight that hard just to be believed.

I’m raising money for Endometriosis UK to help change that. The work they do—supporting those struggling, raising awareness, and pushing for better care—is vital. But more needs to be done. People deserve faster diagnoses, better treatment options, and to be taken seriously from the start.

If sharing my story helps even one person feel less alone, or encourages someone to keep pushing for answers, then it’s worth it.

And if you’re able to support—whether that’s through donating, sharing my JustGiving page, or simply helping spread awareness—it would mean more than I can put into words.

Because this isn’t just about my story.

It’s about everyone still waiting to be heard.
