Music gets medieval to mark the Magna Carta

Joglaresa: Robbers, Rebels and Royals is showing at The Old Town Hall on February 13

Tales of Robin Hood, King John, outlaws, rebels, social justice and injustice, all interwoven with Joglaresa’s electrifying song.

With medieval harps, fidel, lute, percussion, bagpipes and voices, Joglaresa perform songs that challenge the supreme authority of kings.

The group also highlight the lives, love, imprisonment and taxation of ordinary folk at the time of the Great Charter.

This UK-based band sounds more like a street band than a solemn early music group. Comprising outstanding international performers from classical, world, folk and jazz, Joglaresa has a sound that is at once traditional and contemporary - combining intoxicating elements of Medieval, Middle Eastern, Flamenco and Celtic music, they create a unique sound that is both extrovert and intimate.

Directed by Belinda Sykes, this London-based British/Israeli/Irish/Arabic ensemble has been playing since 1992.
