Dacorum Community Choir trials new experience in singing

Grovehill based Dacorum Community Choir returned to rehearsals this month to start their Autumn term.

With the choir still unable to meet in person, the group has been exploring different ways of getting together.

Since lockdown, members have had access to 'Dacorum Community Choir at Home' on YouTube - pre-recorded by musical director, Rufus Frowde - but this term they are trialling a new experience in singing as a group via Zoom.

The first live session was on September 8, with Andrew Holder mastering the technology and inviting members to the meeting.

It was generally agreed that this was a brilliant way of joining in with songs old and new from their repertoire, plus an opportunity for some lively chat after the rehearsal.

For the rest of the term it is planned for Zoom meetings and YouTube recording to alternate, plus a further Desert Island Discs session, featuring the choir's accompanist, Judi Kelly.

Their many friends in the community will continue to have the opportunity to join in online with links to recordings posted on the choir's Facebook page www.facebook.com/dacorumcommunitychoir.

Over the summer, some of the members met for picnics in parks and gardens, limited to six people at a time, with social distancing in place.

Last week's picnic on Redbourn Common epitomises the choir's 'can do' spirit on a typical English summer's day (pictured).
