Border artists in open studio

And the first primary school to be involved with the annual event will join with makers and artists at College Lake Nature Reserve near Tring to exhibit their work.

Bucks Open Studios starts on Saturday (June 11) and will include a record breaking 323 entries made by over 500 artists including glass workers, ceramicists, jewellery makers, photographers and painters.

Taking place for two weeks through to Sunday June 26 the event will see participants open their studios to the public for free demonstrations, workshops and exhibitions.

Working with experienced artist and teacher Catherine McCartney-Smith, children from Brookmead School in Ivinghoe will create an outdoor installation overlooking the lake at the nature reserve near Tring.

Pupils will be guided through the creative process and encouraged to document their findings through images and recordings. As well as taking part in the College Lake event, pupils will also stage their own exhibition of artwork and craft objects that draw inspiration from the local environment at their school from Thursday June 23 through to Saturday June 25.

Other artists at the College Lake event include Cathy Timbrell who makes silver jewellery; Hazel Godfrey who works with woven willow; Jenny Hoole who creates individual, affordable fused glass dishes; and mixed media artist Julie Brown who works with a broad range of materials including encaustic wax, ceramics and textiles.
