Phil on form to land the President’s Putter at Little Hay

With the course, and particularly the greens, in top condition – and despite some pretty tough rough – some excellent scores were achieved.

The main competition of the day, for the President’s Putter, was won by Phil Jefferson with 42 Stableford points from the championship tees.

Second place went to Liam Furlong with 41 points, while Tony Alford was a further point back in third.

Other winners on the day were Colin Staines with 43 points from the normal men’s tees, Karen Burrows (ladies competition) with 46 points, and Tom Parr (juniors) with 39 points.

The prize for the longest, straightest drive was won by junior George Rocca and the prize for nearest the pin was won by John Leahy.

Elsewhere, 28 teams from 19 Hertfordshire clubs met at Knebworth Golf Club for the Herts County Ladies’ Autumn Meeting.

The format was teams of four players recording their best three Stableford scores on each hole.

The winning team members from Little Hay were Jacky Joslyn, Linda Cusick, Chris Marsden and Clare Stammeijer, who scored a stunning 124 points.

Runners-up with 122 points was the team from The Hertfordshire GC, and in third place, with 120 points, was Mill Green Golf Club.

In action elsewhere, Little Hay’s Linda Reeve came second in the national final of the NAPGC Ladies’ Senior Championships of England at West Middlesex Golf Club in Southall.

Second place in the pairs event went to Linda Reeve and Clare Stammeijer.
