Gade Valley Harrier Andy on a roll at the Barrel Inn Fell Race

Gade Valley Harrier Andy Terry took to the hills on to compete in the 2014 Barrel Inn Fell Race in Eyam, Derbyshire.

The 10.5km off-road course took in an elevation of 430m and Terry put in a solid performance, finishing in 1 hour, 3 minutes and 9 seconds.

Elsewhere, Saturday saw six Harriers taking on the St Albans parkrun, with three new PBs recorded.

First Harrier home was Simon Wallis in 19:17, followed by Steve Newing in 19:52 and Matthew Ashby in a new PB of 20:15.

Next came Ross Geary with a new PB of 24:14, coming first in his age category, followed by Simon Geary in 24:15 and Helen Heathcote in 29:32.

The Black Park parkrun, meanwhile, saw Harriers John Lawler and Vince Ellerby in action, with Lawler coming home in 18:47 in ninth overall place, with Ellerby completing in 20:01.

One hard mud run wasn’t enough for Gade Valley Harrier Steve Reeve, who took on the Spartans run 5K race on Saturday and the 10K race the following day.

Both races were over an obstacle course and competitors had to climb, crawl through mud, and swing on ropes and bars – all while carrying weights.

Steve was raising money for the Sparks Children’s Charity, which aims to provide medical help to children that are born with conditions that may affect them for life. Donations can be made at www.justgiving.com/Stevo4Sparks/

Crossing the pond to America, Peter Tucker completed the Labour Day Half Marathon in New York City. Tucker braved the stifling heat to finish the race in 2:36:00.

On Sunday, Gade Valley Harriers triathletes Guy Wollett and Jon Roberts were in action in the Cotswold Classic Middle Distance Triathlon.

Held in the heart of the Cotswolds, the race consisted of a 1.9K swim, a 90K bike ride and then a 21K run, where Wollett finished in a total time of 4:42:58, with Roberts snapping at his heels in 4:43:30.

Wolletts’ splits were: swim - 34:38; bike - 2:25:41; run - 1:39:11.

Roberts’ splits were: swim - 37:19; bike - 2:27:21; run - 1:35:34.

Roberts was 14th in his age group, 69th overall, and Wollett was eighth in his category and 66th overall from a field of around 650 athletes.
