Sunday league goal-fest gets the season up and running in style

There were goals galore as the Berkhamsted Sunday Football League season got under way on Sunday - with 21 of these arriving in just four games in the Premier Division.

Berko Tornadoes made a whirlwind start to the season, blowing Everett Rovers away in a 6-0 victory. Jack Sunderland netted a hat-trick, with Andy Wheeler-King and an own-goal sealing the win.

It was high fives for Flaunden as they triumphed 5-2 at Leverstock Green Corinthians thanks to efforts from Ben Adams, Lee Butler, Matt Dean and two own-goals.

The remaining two games in the division both ended 3-1, with Curtis Donaldson (2) and an own goal doing the damage for AFC Boars against Berko Athletic, and Luke Sharpley, Alex McCarthy and David McKenzie on target for Comets Sports Club against Doves United.

The goal-fest continued in Division One as FC Jubilee were jubilant at Gossoms End – Luke Hughes (3), Kevin Price (2) and Scott Carrington earning a 6-1 win for the visitors.

Jam United thrashed eight-man Greenacres II as Jack Butterfield (2), Scott Grimes and Lewis Goddard took advantage of their visitors’ indiscipline, while Apsley Athletic were 4-0 victors at FC Intervino thanks to Paul McManus, Jack Wood, Ollie Gurney and Chris Linsell.

Hemel Athletic also started the season with a win as Dean Gregory (2), Matt Collier and Sam Handley secured a 4-2 victory against Echoes.

Sporting Oddfellows were the big winners in Division Two, as Greg Goodchild (3) and Eddie Walsh earned a 4-0 win over Berko Athletic Reserves.

Berko Tornadoes had Mat Baxter to thank for a 2-1 victory against Greenacres Tavern, and Hemel Tudors beat The Queens Head by the same scoreline courtesy of Jamie Long and Stephen Kilner.

Landrovers were 3-2 winners at Robin Hood – Pat Rushton (2) and David Wares getting the goals.

Division Three saw 2-1 wins for Ollys Athletic and Victoria United. Kenny Harrington and Sam Hailey struck for Athletic at Leather Bottle, while George Palmer and Ben Beechey were the match-winners for United against Berko Tornadoes A.

Boxmoor drew 1-1 with AFC Saints, while GB Precision and Greenacres II Reserves shared a 0-0 stalemate.
