Semi-final heartbreak as Athletic go out of the cup

Apsley Athletic's dreams of Herts FA Sunday Intermediate Cup glory came to an end at the weekend as they went down 1-0 to Shamrock Rovers in the semi-finals of the competition.

There was better news for AFC Boars, however, as a hat-trick from Sonny French, along with efforts from Charlie Martindale and Charlie Ausden, secured a 5-2 victory over Jam United in the third round of the BSFL Sunday Senior Cup.

The finalists have been identified in the BSFL Sunday Junior Cup, with Leather Bottle and Boxmoor both recording convincing semi-final victories to set up a winner-takes-all showdown.

Leather Bottle had Tom Carter (3) and Ben Butler (2) to thank for their 5-1 thrashing of The Midland, while strikes from Rhys Cassidy (3) and Haydn Cassidy powered Boxmoor to a 4-1 victory over Ollys Athletic.

In league action, BSFL Premier Division side Doves United edged past Flaunden 2-1 with goals from John Smith and Adiel Mannion (pictured above).

FC Intervino went goal crazy in BSFL Division One, thumping Hemel Athletic 8-0 through goals from Jake Hosier (4), Bradley Hedges (2), Kane Axten and Michael Gray.

FC Jubilee also won well, romping to a 5-1 win at Echoes courtesy of efforts from Scott Carrington (2), Karl Davidson (2) and Luke Hughes, while Rhys Stonebank got the goal for Greenacres II in their 1-0 triumph over Gossoms End.

BSFL Division Two saw Robin Hood arrow past Comets Sports Club Reserves through Dom Banks (2), Lewis Taylor (2), Matt Brace and Tom Gillespie, while Danny Roberts, Shaun Stevens, Brandon Parrott and Kwabena Oppong were the marksmen for Greenacres Tavern in a 4-1 win over Berko Tornadoes Reserves.

Berko Athletic Reserves were 4-2 victors at Old Bell Athletic thanks to Ricky Shepherd, Jonny Lewis, Tom Kemp and Matt Bunce, with Sporting Oddfellows winning by the same scoreline against Landrovers through Romain Chapman (2), Eddie Welsh and Chris Such.

In BSFL Division Three, Greenacres II downed Hemel Harriers 2-0 through Robbie Bates and Alex Barsby, while a Matt Barnett strike earned Berko Tornadoes A a 1-0 win against Victoria United.
