Second-half onslaught sinks Tudors

Hemel Hempstead Town suffered a second-half collapse as they lost 4-0 at Chelmsford City in the Conference South.

Strikes from Michael Cheek, Rohdell Gordon, Lee Sawyer and Jason Williams sealed the three points for the Clarets after an impressive performance.

Hemel made a promising start to the match and could have found themselves one goal to the good inside the opening 10 minutes. A well-worked cross from right-back Ed Asafu-Adjaye was missed by skipper, and former City midfielder, Jordan Parkes, eventually making its way to the back post

Hemel striker Oliver Hawkins was lurking behind the City defence ready to punish, but fluffed his lines as his shot looped up, allowing Bradley Watkins to collect.

Hemel’s Matthew Saunders also took aim from the edge-of-the-box and was denied by Watkins’ finger tips as the ball was destined to nestle into the top corner.

Chelmsford opened the scoring when Cheek displayed predatory instincts to smash home his sixth league goal of the campaign.

On 72 minutes, the home side made it 2-0 when Gordon burst into the box and slotted the ball under onrushing Hemel goalkeeper Laurie Walker.

Sawyer then made sure of the win when he tucked home Joe Ward’s pin-point cross , and Williams, who is on loan from Sky Bet League Two side Southend United, added a fourth.
