Hemel Town FC manager Dean Brennan has demanded more from his side following their 4-0 drubbing at the hands of Gosport on Saturday.

The defeat leaves the Tudors in 19th position in the Conference South table, and Brennan admits that his side are short of where they were aiming to be at this stage in the season.

“The first half it was an even game but we found ourselves a goal down at half-time,” said the Tudors boss. “Don’t get me wrong we were playing very poorly.

“We came out second half and completely pressed the self-destruct button. We were terrible to say the least.

“I always look at myself first and foremost and, looking back assessing the game, I got the selection wrong, the tactics wrong and I definitely got my substitutes wrong.

“The players need to take a good look at themselves too, because we are a quarter the way through the season and only have 11 points. This is simply not good enough.”

The Tudors were far from their best at Privett Park, and Brennan felt his side’s shortcomings were clear to see.

“Credit to Gosport they stuck to the game plan, kept their discipline and ran out comfortable winners,” he said.

“For us on the day we showed no discipline in our performance.

“Our player game management was nonexistent; we conceded the first goal from a corner and their first attack on 16 minutes which mentally we never recovered from.

“We never looked like scoring; we were toothless in attack.

“We had two players actually perform to their standard in Danny Talbot and Wes Daly and that’s the only positive I can say about the game if I’m honest.

“We need to put Saturday behind us and make sure we keep sticking together and working our socks off for each other.

“We have to be honest to ourselves and each other. Only honest hard work is going to get us out of this situation.”
