‘Mature’ Borough performance pleases Tudors boss Brennan

Hemel produced an excellent second half display, and Brennan was understandably pleased with the efforts of his young charges.

“I would have taken 2-1 before the game all day long,” he said. “I’m very pleased with the win and the maturity of our second half display.

“First half we were outnumbered and overrun in centre midfield – we tried to play with width with both Potton and Banton, and they played with a narrow diamond in there.

“I just felt the tacky pitch never let us get it down and play. But also full credit to Gosport who stopped us getting in our normal passing rhythm.

“We changed things slightly in midfield, matching Gosport’s diamond formation and we went man for man. We also played slightly more direct to our front and men took less risks. For me that is our young team starting to mature.”

Confidence is clearly high in the Hemel camp, and Brennan added: “The belief is in our squad now because we have very good young players; the players over the last three months have been outstanding.

“All this team needed was time to believe in themselves – we have so much potential and ability in our squad. As a team we are all just concentrating and looking forward to the next game.”

Brennan was also quick to praise stand-in goalkeeper Charlie May, who impressed again in place of suspended number one Laurie Walker.

He said: “Charlie was excellent, making three or four top class saves at crucial times. It’s good to know we’ve got two very good goalkeepers in the squad.”
