Levy Green not quite safe yet after loss to Sun Sports

A 1-0 home defeat to Sun Sports combined with results elsewhere left Levy Green still possibly requiring further points to ensure their SSML Premier Division survival.

Harefield’s win kept their hopes of passing Leverstock’s points total alive, and while it would take an unlikely set of results for the four sides below Levy to all pass 35 points, some more points from their remaining two games would be welcome.

The game against Sun was an evenly-contested affair. Leverstock almost went in front in the 10th minute as a long throw from Curtis Donaldson was punched clear by keeper Ross Hampton, but only to the edge of the box where Dan Bourne connected with a shot that hit the post.

Four minutes later at the other end, Sun took the lead from Kerran Lataille’s long-range effort, which Liam Jahn thought was going wide but instead nestled in the bottom corner of the net.

There were few other chances in the first half, but on 39 minutes Jahn pulled off a good save to push away Scott Bonner’s header.

Three minutes into the second half, former Green player Louis Bircham was through on goal, but Jahn pulled off another good save to keep out Bircham’s shot.

For the next 30 minutes, though, it was all Leverstock as they pushed forward in search of an equaliser.

In the 50th minute a ball forward was flicked on by Lewis Cruwys to Ryan Laville, who tried to lob Hampton but it went just over the bar.

On 57 minutes Cruwys got on the end of a cross from Donaldson, but his header went just wide.

Ten minutes later a free-kick from Donaldson bounced through to the far post where Ashley Addison’s header hit the post.

On 78 minutes another Donaldson free-kick caused chaos in the Sun box as they failed to clear the ball, but Tommy Walsh’s shot from the edge of the box went just wide.

Three minutes into stoppage time there was a glimmer of hope as Leverstock won a free-kick in a dangerous position. It was within Donaldson’s range, but this time he couldn’t keep his shot under the bar, and that proved to be the Green side’s last chance of salvaging a point.

Leverstock have two games left, at home to Hadley on Saturday, and at home to Cockfosters next Tuesday.
