Leisure Leagues round-up: The Fellowship show unity to maintain pole position

The Fellowship, who topped the Premiership before the game, were up against second placed AFC Lech Albans.

A win was almost essential for Kitt Hulse’s Lech Albans side as they already trailed the table toppers by two points with just three games of the current campaign remaining.

Albans were taken by surprise when Andy Jeffrey’s side came flying out of the blocks to establish a 10-2 first half lead.

An outstanding performance from Luke Mallord, who returned from a long absence to net four in the game, earned him the man of the match accolade.

Team captain Andy Jeffreys added three fantastic goals of his own during the second half, as did midfield dynamo Pete Nightingale, contributing to the team’s astonishing 19-goal tally at the final whistle.

Credit must be given to Lech Albans’ striker Max Parsons who was clinical in front of goal and scored four in the game - unfortunately for him it was a complete lack of man marking in defence that prevented the scores being any closer.

Lech Albans slip to third on the back of the defeat after Butterflies scooped up the points in their match.

The international side may fancy their chances of holding on to the runners-up spot as they continue their winning momentum.

Front man Joao Marcondes always looked a threat in front of goal and some powerful strikes on target were not dealt with by their opponents, Big P FC.

Butterflies had a 4-2 advantage going in to the second half but they remained hungry for goals as the game continued.

Marcondes bagged a hat-trick and supplied some sublime through-balls to team-mates on several occasions.

Despite an impressive hat-trick from Big P striker Matt Keane, who scored the only goals for his side, a comeback never really threatened Butterflies and they looked comfortable right up to the final whistle.

In the Championship, Sam Sambucci’s Slytherin FC maintained their almost perfect form as they managed to hold on for a win in what was a very close and entertaining match with Up Yours FC.

Possession was evenly split during the game and there were countless attacks on goal by either side.

Josh Spinks netted a hat-trick for Slytherin FC and while defender Ryan Hiett did not score, he certainly played a pivotal role in his team’s victory.

Meanwhile, it was Up Yours FC keeper Ollie llelliott who stole the show with countless fine saves and was aptly awarded the man of the match accolade.

Four goals from on-form striker Chris Blunden and a hat-trick from Samuel Budd were not quite enough to give Up Yours a point from the match as Slytherin celebrated their narrow 10-9 victory and stay top.

Ocean’s 5, managed by Tom Conlon, entertained HH Dons this week and they stormed to a 10-1 lead in the match.

Jordan Higgins stood out from the rest as he fired home five quality goals, two of which were well taken volleys.

Duncan Radband was equally impressive with a series of fine saves to deny the Dons time and again.

Dominic Turburville’s side are growing in confidence and, with some tactical refinements, they will no doubt be able to celebrate a victory soon.

ATBL and Chicken Kiev played out a very close contest, with not a goal to separate the sides at half-time.

Charlie Bull’s team were well organised but Kiev keeper and man of the match Paul Paprotny managed to steer many of their shots around the posts.

Kiev had the advantage in the second half but they were only a single goal in front and it was a nail-biting final five minutes for Kiev as they held on for a much needed win.

There was another display of impressive goalkeeping in Hemel Elite’s clash with Have You Got It.

The old rivals, both intent on a win, were particularly cautious in the early stages of the game and this was evident by the 0-0 half-time scoreline.

Attacks on goal were more common in the second half and this was when the keepers were most busy, with Chris Wyatt and Joe Dalton both proving their agility.

It was Dalton who kept a clean sheet and enabled Asa Foster’s men to celebrate a 6-0 victory.
