Kings Langley see off Biggleswade United to move one win from the title

Kings had the ball in the net inside 60 seconds, but finisher Alex Campana was judged to have been offside.

However, they responded immediately when 18-year-old Steve Ward rode three challenges to deliver the perfect pass with the outside of his foot to Tom Carter who kept his cool to steer the ball past Grant Beckwith for 1-0.

Two minutes later, Lewis Toomey bemused two defenders in taking the ball to the byline and crossed for Campana to side foot home at the far post.

With the home crowd fearing the worst, United were to be applauded for closing ranks, marshalled by Nyasha Sagwete.

Although Kings turned on the style with their slick approach work, a Toomey chance saved by Beckwith was the closest they came to adding the vital third.

Both Toomey and Carter were guilty of misses after half-time, before United gambled – going three at the back and introducing Carbon up front, with Sagwete making way.

It led to their first on-target shot when Ant Ladyman had to tip over a Jack Boyd volley, but Kings responded with Nick Jackson firing just wide after a flowing move.

Beckwith finger-tipped Carter’s close range effort onto the post and, when the keeper blocked a point-blank shot from Toomey, it became apparent that the buffer of a third goal was not going to arrive .

As United continued to try to play attractive football, the home support believed in a comeback until the final minutes of an entertaining and sporting encounter.

Next up for Kings is a home clash against Wembley on Tuesday night, where victory would see them crowned champions.
