In the wake of this week’s Southern League Central title triumph, Edgar feels that the time is right to step aside and allow somebody new to take over in the hot seat.

Explaining his decision to step down, Edgar said: “The club is in my DNA, I have been here nearly all my adult life and I am no less committed now than I was when I first arrived.

“But you have to know when to stand aside in the interests of the club’s continued progress.

“The job of chairman is a pivotal role at any club but at the level we are now operating it’s vital the holder of the role can bring the business acumen and experience necessary to maintain the club’s development.

“From a football perspective, the club has made giant strides in recent seasons under the joint management of Paul Hughes and Ritchie Hanlon.

“With their professional experience Ritchie and Paul, supported by coach Clarke Jenner, have done a magnificent job in propelling what is essentially a village team into the upper echelons of Non-League football.

“I cannot understate what they and the players have done here.

“Three successive promotions says everything about their ability and commitment in achieving this unrivalled feat in the club’s history.

“That said, it’s important those achievements are matched off the field to ensure the club’s sustainability at the level their efforts have taken us to.

“During my tenure I have been blessed with the support of a small but extremely hard working band of colleagues on the club committee.

“The team ethic at Kings Langley prevails both on and off the pitch but going forward it’s important those attributes are supplemented with the right level of expertise to take the club forward.

“My hope is that the role will appeal to an individual who is keen to bring their experience to bear to help fully realise the club’s undoubted potential.

“I will remain in post until a successor is found and will fully support the incoming chairman thereafter from the position of club president.”

The role will be advertised on the club’s website at www.kingslangleyfc.co.uk and Edgar will be happy to discuss the position with anybody interested in putting themse;ves forward.
