High fives as Rovers see off Goffs Oak to reach the quarter-finals of the cup

Hemel started brightly and it came as no surprise when Jamal Babb struck from 25 yards to put his team in front.

A 1-0 half-time lead was good value for Rovers and they looked to press on in the second period.

Both teams struggled to play a passing game, but a mis-timed tackle from Tom Porter gave Goffs a chance to level things up from the spot.

Fortune stayed with Rovers, however, as the penalty hit the post and was cleared.

Just minutes later, indecision in the Hemel defence allowed the home side a goal to level the scores.

Both teams battled for a second goal and it went Rovers’ way as an Alex McCarthy free-kick was headed home by Porter.

It seemed that would be the final score until a terrible challenge from a Goffs defender injured Rovers’ Conor Deadman and resulted in a straight red card.

Despite their numerical advantage, there was disaster for Hemel as Goffs scrambled an equaliser in the last minute of the game.

Extra-time saw Rhys Stonebank introduced into Rovers’ midfield and it did not take him long to put his side in front again after a fine through-ball by Kevin Price.

The second half of extra-time saw the home team lose their composure which resulted in four yellow cards, and Rovers took advantage.

Phil Moloney and Stonebank ran the midfield and Mylie Cash found the net for 4-2, before McCarthy wrapped things up with a fifth goal.
