Hemel Hempstead Town striker secures dream Burton Albion move

Hemel Hempstead Town striker Millar Matthews-Lewis has been rewarded for a terrific season so far by securing a move to League One side Burton Albion.

Matthews-Lewis, 21, has joined the Brewers on a two-and-a-half-year contract with additional 12-month club option, for an undisclosed fee.

Having started his career in the academy at Luton Town, Matthew-Lewis joined the Tudors last summer and scored 12 goals in 26 league games for Lee Allinson’s men as they push for promotion. That form alerted Albion, whose boss Gary Bowyer was delighted to have recruited him.

He said: “I’m delighted to welcome Millar to the club, he’s had a good season so far and we see the potential for him to develop further.

“Millar can score all types of goals and is really keen to learn. Having spoken with him on the phone, he has a great desire to succeed and make the step up.”

Matthews-Lewis also emphasised his pleasure at the move, saying: “It’s a dream come true for me, I can’t wait to get started. This level of football is one that I feel will really get the best out of me and I can’t wait to get to work with the lads here.”

Matthews-Lewis will be eligible for the first time this weekend when Burton take on Port Vale.

Tudors boss Allinson said: “We never want to lose good players, but at the same time I’m a manager who loves to see players progress and if I’ve helped even one per cent to see a player change his life and become a professional footballer then I will sleep well at night.

"As a football club we will never stand in the way of progression. I’m sure some supporters will be disappointed as Mills was having a great season, but he has now changed his life, is living the dream as a professional and we need to remember the great times he has given us.

"I wish Mills every success and I’m going to miss him as I’m sure players and supporters will, but what an opportunity.”
