Hemel boss Allinson wants more goals from his side

Hemel Hempstead Town boss Lee Allinson says he’s seeking more fluency from his side following the 1-1 draw at home to Horsham on Saturday.

The result left Hemel in seventh spot in the National League South after the weekend’s games, and ahead of another home game with Chelmsford City on Tuesday night which was played after this week’s Gazette went to press.

And Allinson had mixed feelings about Saturday’s battle.

He told the club’s media: “It was OK. I feel we’re not fluent at the moment and it’s something we’ve got to look at.

"I feel we look a bit legless, so to speak, in terms of our press and the way we get about people, and that happens at times.

"You go through spells in seasons. I’ve said this many times where it’s just not quite fluent and it doesn’t feel fluent at the moment. It took us four or five subs to really start getting the balls down the side of them and for us to look a threat, but we need to be so much better.

"Having said that, it was a very even game. They’ve had a couple of chances in the first-half, we’ve had a couple in the second-half, but my frustration is we’re not testing the keeper. We’re having shots at goal and we work so hard on that on Thursday nights, but people have got to start scoring goals otherwise they’ll find themselves out of the side and others get opportunities.

"But we’ve defended OK, although we were in control of the second-half and gave a really poor goal away. I think we’re quite fortunate to get out with a point in the end.

"There shouldn’t be a loss of confidence in the attacking players – we’re sitting in the play-offs so if there is then that’s a big worry for me.

"We’ll work extremely hard and you go through spells like this, but we’ll come back and we’ll be fine.

“I’d be seriously worried if we weren’t creating, but we do create, it’s just not quite happening.”

Following the game with Chelmsford City on Tuesday, Hemel go to Tonbridge Angels on Saturday and then host Hornchurch next Tuesday night.
