The high-flying Comrades made it three home victories in the space of eight days as they saw off the Green to move level on points with Sun Sports at the top of the SSML Premier Division.

Vipond said: “We played some good football, and three wins on the spin puts us in a much better position; we look full of confidence and our performances are now mirroring that as well.”

Leverstock were down to 10 men for the whole of the second half, and Vipond admitted he was left a little frustrated as his side failed to turn the numerical advantage into more goals.

“I didn’t think we were in any danger of losing the game, and we probably looked like we were always winning it,” said Vipond.

“We were 2-0 up at half-time, got the third in the second half and then it was a case of can we rack up enough goals as we knew goal difference would’ve put us top.

“It was a little bit flat and we missed a hatful of chances early on which was disappointing.

“It’s difficult to be too critical, though, because we won the game, kept a clean sheet and scored three goals.”

At the time the Gazette went to press, the Comrades were preparing to face Kings Langley in the second round of the Challenge Trophy at Broadwater.

Berko lost to Kings in the FA Vase earlier this month and Vipond confessed his players will need to put in a vastly improved display if they are to get a result.

“We had chance after chance when we played them in the Vase, we were poor and they were particularly good,” he said.

“The boys will be looking forward to it because they were disappointed with their performance so it bodes well to be a cracking game.”
