Christie doubles up as Berko cruise through in confident Vase display

The defence had to be reshuffled with Carl Tasker and Ed Canham unavailable and Lewis Rodrigoe still injured, so Ben Barnes was in goal and Kyle Lincoln made his first start at left-back.

Barnes had little to do in the match and there were few shots on goal at either end in a first half where Berko ran the game but lacked quality with the final ball.

A Josh Chamberlain corner was cleared off the line and James Towell went up the right wing and delivered an inviting cross that Adiel Mannion narrowly missed.

Berko were quick out of the blocks in the second half; after surviving a brief scare when man of the match Steve Hawes appeared to control the ball with his hand in the penalty box, BJ Christie stormed up the other end and nearly scored.

Christie went close twice, while James Baldry shot wide and Chamberlain got in a header as Berko pressed.

A two-goal burst from Christie settled the match in the space of eight minutes as he used his strength down the middle and unleashed a fierce drive past Josh McAdoo to open the scoring.

His shot into the top corner for his second goal was even better, and Courtney Massey struck the bar in what became one way traffic.

New signing Dale Turney was one of three substitutes that Berko used and he netted the third after latching on to a defence-splitting ball, before McAdoo saved a Massey free-kick as Berko ended the game strongly.
