Brennan remains upbeat after Tudors suffer heavy defeat

As disappointing as the scoreline was against a team that began Saturday on the same number of points as the Tudors, Brennan is looking at the bigger picture.

Hemel, who are a healthy 12th in the table, following their promotion from the Southern League last season, entertain Staines Town tonight, Tuesday, before playing host to lowly Sutton United on Saturday.

Overall it has been a good start to the campaign, and in a message on the club’s website, Brennan said: “I encourage the Tudors fans to keep up the positivity.

“There was a large following at Chelmsford on Saturday, it’s also good to hear that the supporters coach was sold out, and there are already plans in place for trips to our January away games.

“As well as coaching from me and Stuart (Maynard), the players need encouragement from the fans, keeping the faith and getting behind them through good and bad performances is key to our players maintaining their form and morale.

“On and off the field, Hemel Hempstead Town FC is barely recognisable from how it was in 2012 – we’ve our highest attendances, a great away following, vocal fans, improving facilities and a squad of players competing at a far better standard of football.

“We’re striving to improve even more and we can only do that by all sticking together.”

At Chelmsford, Hemel were undone by four second-half goals, and Brennan admitted that the home side’s approach surprised him.

“I had watched Chelmsford four times in the build up to our game,” said Brennan. “On the day they changed their tactics from what I’d previously seen, which slightly hampered our own approach to the game.

“After an even first half, City were ruthless in the second. This level of football is all about being punished with ruthless, effective finishing.”
